Lines for going to the loo.

My d.s got lines yesterday for asking to go to the toilet during class time. He is six. We had a chilli pizza for lunch yesterday and he drank a few glasses of water,and so had to ask out twice,and got nine lines. Apparently it is a class rule. He is now refusing to drink anything at lunchtime,even though it is boiling outside (we are in France). This is shocking, isn't it?

yes, it's appalling

is this typical in France?

I don't think so. I teach nine year olds and it would never occur to me to stop a child going to the loo. Surely it's a basic right.Having said that, none of the other mums have batted an eyelid, so for them it's obviously not a big deal;
