Kumon? Has anyone used it?

I'm looking into it at the moment. Flash brochure and all that. I know if I ring the local advisor she will tell me it's ideal. I thought I'd get some more input before I did that.

Would be grateful to hear your stories - good, bad or indifferent.

My charges have done Kumon and it helped a lot with the basics - -adding subtracting, factions etc
I did Kumon as a child (yes its that old) and it helped with the basics but I hated it and even now if you open random books at the parents house you can find yellowed kumon pages I had hidden away.
I so not think it is bad but am sure there are other options just as good out there.

I think Kumon teaches children to complete Kumon workbooks rather than learn them to apply the things they have been "taught" to the subject.

There are loads of threads in the archives on Kumon, if you have an hour or two to spare.

I don't know a lot about it so I can't really say-all I know is that, when I have taught DCs who go, they they are very inflexible and are resistant to other methods. They don't seem to be able to apply it very well. (it is the DCs who are inflexible-I'm sure that Kumon intend it to be flexible).
