Anyone managed to get a statement "just" for dyslexia?

DS1 is in Y3, has got all the way through to the Ed Psych assessment where it is confirmed that yes indeed he is dyslexic [at last], reading age of 5. School have had him on IEP's since the end of Reception, all interventions have been well documented. He struggles massively - and what concerns me most is that he needs heaps of support in place well before his move to high school. Yes I know it's three years off - but that time will fly and I know it.

ta corny lol @ being same!

Well...there is a specialist dyslexia teacher in the school, she works with him for a session a week - he misses assembly on mondays to do it so I can't imagine his session being much more than half an hour. For him that's probably the optimum anyway because his concentration is erratic depending on how interested he is and how well his 'seeing'[his word] is working (I think he means that on a day when the letters aren't making any sense at all he gives up and feels defeated)

Fantastic, Cat. That is an enormous help.

Cat that's interesting. The school applied for ds's and when I was sent a copy by the LEA I was a bit annoyed at how badly presented it had been (by the SENCO.) I wished I'd applied myself after that.

thanks again all - have just been back and read the whole thread and there are some absolute gems in here.

I'm going to have [yet another] chat with the SENCO this week and see what they're up to and then launch my own part of it
