Thames Ditton/East Molesey/Esher schools

Hi

We are moving down to this area and looking at schools - my older daughter starts in Sept 2010.
We have heard good things about Cranmere school in Esher (a primary) and about Thames Ditton Infants. Not so good things about Thames ditton junior school. Does anyone have any knowledge of this school, or of Cranmere...
any thoughts would be much appreciated !

My daughter goes to The Orchard infant school in East Molesey. It has an outstanding Ofsted report and a great reputation with local parents. My daughter is happy and doing well there. The only downside is that it doesn't have a junior school attached. I too have heard positive reports on Cranmere and Thames Ditton infants - but like you, not great things about TDJ.

Many thanks for this. Our difficulty is knowing which roads to focus on in our house hunt so that we get our daughter into the best school we can. I dont know anyone with a child at TDJ and it would be useful to find out why it doesnt have such a good rep in the area. Mainly because we like TD village and it would be convenient for her to go to the infants and then TDHJ ! But we'll have to keep looking nearer Cranmere too I think. The Orchard sounds lovely and we definately look out for suitable houses in its catchment. Its such a lottery getting places though....

Apparently the intake this year is massive, they have put an extra class into all three. We know people who are happy with TDJ but equally we know others who pulled their children out. With the Orchard you tend to go onto St Lawrence which everyone seems happy with but there are alot of people unhappy this year as the children have been sent on to Rydens in Hersham rather than Esher High, whereas Cranmere will send to Esher High.
Such fun! However they are all good, and it is a lovely area.

Thanks for that. What is it about TDJ that people arent so happy with..the Ofsted seems to be saying that the school doesnt challenge the more able pupils. Also, St Lawrence has church attendance as one of its criteria for admission. How do parents at the Orchard deal with this !

Ha ha ha! I don't know a single St Lawrence parent who goes to church!

It sounds like I need to know more about admission to church schools. I'd thought they would look into church attendance before giving the child the place.

My children go to St Lawrence and we go to church - there are quite a few others too. I don't think they are strict on this though.
