'Reading wall'

Does anybody know of, or have a link for, a 'reading wall'? My DS is in Y1 but is reading several years ahead and his teacher has suggested we use a reading wall to encourage him to read books from a wide range of genres. I think the wall has a brick for each genre. The school are meant to be providing us with a copy but we haven't received it yet and was just wondering if any of you can help. Thanks very much.

Have a look here.

Scroll down to the 'reading' section, then 'reading wall' is the bottom document. HTH

That link is interesting gladbag, some great resources, the reading wall doesnt seem quite as lego princess was describing though....

I am intrigued as my ds would benefit from such a thing as well, I have googled it but with no joy

That is the same link - It isnt a wall with a brick for each genre so doesnt sound quite as legoprincess describes

I am still intrigued - though I will find this version useful too

If you go down the page and download the reading wall it has bricks

the upper "layer" has for example

Can read and derive meaning from an increasing range of unknown texts.

Is able to reflect on reading through discussion.

Is able to respond to texts through the development of their writing.

Can read in a variety of ways according to purpose. Can search, retrieve, skim and scan

Is showing an increasing tolerance of genres.

Is able and willing to revisit earlier reading with increased understanding.

Not a wall but some suggested genres from the reading zone

MRZ - I think the Y1 reading link is quite cool, thanks!

Have also been told to widen the genres DS is reading and that will be a useful reference point.

Thanks, everybody. mrz, your link looks like just what I was hoping for as it also has the 'walls' up to Y6.
