Could anyone tell me more about this school? We are considering it for ds. Have looked around and the prep department in particular looks very nice (I thought the pre-prep looked a bit cramped). Really want to know if it is friendly and welcoming and if people are happy with it overall.

I'm after the same info. bump. Also my children have places at Twickenham Prep too so any comparison would be good. Have you looked at the Mall school - boys only?

It's very popular with a huge waiting list...I would rate it higher than Twickenham prep but that's my personal opinion.
A friend turned down a place as they didn't do enough after school care to fit with her work.

I know a boy who started this year in Y3 and apparently there are still places in that year group - which is not much use if you are after Reception, but might suggest the waiting lists are not as terrifying as they suggest. They seem happy but it is a shock after his state primary - homework every night, much longer days (I think in Y3 it's 8.20 till 4.00, compared to 9.00 till 3.15 at our local primary).

The Mall is generally seen as being more academic than Newland House which is in turn more academic than Twickenham Prep. Mall used to ask boys to leave if they were seen to be below standard but has not done for several years. Mall is building a great new theatre and arts complex. NH seen as snootier than the others. Somewhat depends on where you have in mind as Senior School.

...sorry, I know people with children at Twickenham Prep and the Mall...ironically they all had their children's names down for Newlands but didn't get in.

I'm looking at Newlands from age 7 for DD. I found Twickenham Prep patronising and the mums were stand offish (when I visited).

So far all my contact with Newlands has been positive.

My friend has her boy at the Mall and is happy with it. It seems quite academically focussed and a lot of emphasis on handwriting in reception. It is also very organised and structured, which may suit your son.

I just wonder what makes Mall more academic than Twickenham prep. Admission at 4+ is non-selective at both schools, pupils who want to join later are invited for assessment in maths and English at both schools.
