hello, i went to visit a school last week for reception 2010 and was surpised to find that it just looked like a typical nursery set up but bit more chaotic than my son's current nursery, is this right? i know he'll only be 4 when he starts. thanks

Nursery and reception are grouped together as the foundation unit, which is more play orientated than the rest of the school, so it sounds about right to me

Sounds right to me too. Learning through play is the way most are. Ask them how their day's structured/ what they expect to teach the kids by the end of the year. That way you'll get a sense of the school's ethos and can see if you like it or not. They do all differ. In fact we found a massive difference between schools within just a half mile radius of one another. Though personally I love the play based learning. For that age it seems perfect to me.
