2 children have left the school because they are being bullied by 3 other children. The Head says there is no bullying in the school.

It can't be right that children have to leave half way through the year. Why haven't the bullies being made to leave? What is the policy in these situations?

I would be careful about making judgments unless you are sure you have all the facts.

Agree with seeker, the best adage is there are two sides to every story.
You know how likely we are as mothers/fathers/carers to come out fighting for our children, we can never see that they would do any wrong, or are sheepish when they do.

My friend's dd's school had a similar situation. The school had a perfectly good policy, but the Head refused to acknowledge the problem - so it wasn't implemented, and the child's mother pulled her out of school (after her dd spent two terms losing weight, becoming withdrawn, etc...not at all herself).

I would agree with Seeker; make sure you have all the facts.

However no Head worth their salt would ever say "there is no bullying in my school." That is an attitude indicative of a complacency which breeds a climate where bullies are likely to thrive.

Any school which says it has no bullying is simply ignoring what is happening.

All schools have a degree of bullying, but it's how that bullying is addressed that is important.

oopsagain · 05/03/2009 22:04

wot littlefish said.

I think you need to hear both sides, but i am also very wary of a head that would say that.

Desiderata · 05/03/2009 22:06

What are your facts?

Do you know the people involved?

PortAndLemon · 05/03/2009 22:08

Any Head who says "there is no bullying in this school" has his/her head in the sand. In fact, most guides to choosing a school tell you to run a mile from any school where the Head says such a thing.
