I am currently in catchment so should get a place at oversubscribed catchment school for a Reception place in September but what if I move between say May and the start of school term. Probably out of catchment, maybe out of county!
Can anyone help.

Would you still be looking to go to the same school?

Check your LEA's rules on their website. Round here, the only address they're interested in is where you are at the time of application. But I know some other authorities do it differently and say you should have the same address at the time you begin at the school.

here we have to inform them if we move house before september.

and don't assume that becuase you're in a catchment area that you'll get a place.

someone I know lives 900m from their nearest school.
last year the furthest away any child lived who got a place was 401m!!!!!

so, you aren't guaranteed a place by any stretch of the imagination unfortunately.

poopscoop - yes as I have two currently at the school so would be looking to stay

have just tried to call admission department but engaged

it is a village and from information gathered and because siblings are currently there we should be ok getting in, home renting(!) is quite close

I think you will be absolutely fine. Don't tell them about the move until just before school starts. Fingers crossed you will get your place especially as you have siblings already there. I doubt very much this will be a problem. People move all the time, we have driven miles to schools before when we have moved house, and never been an issue.

thanks poopscoop - sometimes I think everyone knows and sees everything I do especially as its a village - grapevine, twitching curtain territory

I also worry about other mothers who may not get their childs place but that probably paranoia
