St Albans primary allocations Bernards Heath

Hi, primary school allocations are the talking point yet again!

If you live in St Albans, you will be aware of how shocking the situation is - so I don't need to mention it!

I live in the conservation area and have been allocated Bernards Heath Infant school, a little over a mile away. I don't mind the school, but the distance is a bit troublesome as I don't drive and there are no buses!

But I want to think positively, and I am hoping to get together a circle of friends who live in this area and have children going to the same school. At least this way play dates don't have to be as much as a mission as the school run!

So anyone who is in a similar situation, please get in touch!

I live in St Albans and didn't realise things were bad my DS is 2.5, thanks for the warning. You might want to post something on the local mumsnet too.

Just thought I'd send you some positive vibes about Bernards Heath. I work at the junior school and both us and the infant school are great (I realise I am very biased ) and will be worth the journey

HJ, my kids don't go to Bernards Heath but I know lots of children that do and have only heard good things about the school. The parents seem to be friendly towards each other, a lively PTA, etc. The Bernards Heath area is only about 10 minutes walk from the top of St Peters St so shouldn't take too long to walk there...

I totally agree about the positive aspects of Bernard's Heath, I didn't want to like it, but I have to say that if it was a similar distance to my nearest 3 schools I would be really pleased with the allocation. And TBH I like to so much I am inclined to feel that it will definitely be worth the journey.

But, GrapefruitMoon, we live over a mile away, getting to the top of St Peters St is half the battle! The journey takes 25-30 mins for an adult walking briskly, and currently takes 50 mins with my DS on his balance bike (His quickest mode of transport!)

So finding Bernards Heath friends who live nearby would be great for my morale!

You go to local at the top of the page, I think I had to set my local page as St Albans and there is a forum there you can post on. I can't be too difficult, I managed it.

By the way chuckeyegg, if you want an idea of which schools you are likely to get in to go to the schoolguru website. It's important to be aware otherwise you might end up just being given what's left over, even if it's miles from your home. My advice is to put your favourite 2 schools as your first choices, and then a "safe" school as your third choice.
