you may be able to help me out with a question.

ds 7 is having troubles at school with spelling, reading and writing. his maths is not fantastic but doing ok in it.

we went today for the consultation at Kip. their findings came out that we was probably as weak in both areas. but he was pretty much on level with his english. this couldnt be more different from what the school says and what i see myself. i was orignally asking for just the english sides of thing to be covereed for now. came out agreeing to work on 50 % of each level each lesson.

not sure what to do. shall i stay with what the school is saying as they know him better and ask for maybe 70% of it to be english. can i do this?

thanks

My ds - who is 6 - has been going to kip mcgrath since september.

I would let them work with him with the areas they suggest and monitor it over the next month.

Ds kip tutor covers all areas - his homework sheets are in each subject (spelling, maths and english) and she helps him with his handwriting. So it covers everything. Over time the tutor will establish a pattern of what needs more attention.

For instance my ds is great at maths so it is not such a priority - she concerntrates alot more on english.

Kip isnt like Kumon - they dont split the subjects as such - it is more of an overall lesson.

I think you should trust them and see what happens - give it a month and see what you think - with kip you have such alot of access to the teacher that if you want to change what his lessons are you can just tell them at a later date.

hope this makes sense!

Just to add - I have noticed a marked improvement in ds since he has been at Kip and she has a real insight into his his strengths and weakness now - she has really helped ds.

good luck.

The Kip teacher knows what they are doing, but you must let them know that you want to have more emphasis on english. Ask for the reason why they have chosen the 50/50 route and if they can change the ratio.
