Year 3 maths...please help!!!

I'm struggling to teach my dd how to do halves. Its easy enough with doubles but when its such big numbers they got to halve I just don't get how they taught to do this. I might sound completely stupid but hey, at least i'm asking for help...anybody please can you help.

When you say such large numbers what do you mean?

By year 3 they should know doubles and halves up to 20, and then they should also know that is half 6 is 3 then half 60 is 30 and half 600 is 300.

So if they have to halve a number such as 648, then they would be expected to work it out as half of 600 plus half of 40 plus half of 8.

The other useful "chunks" to know are half of 50 and half of 150.
