Homework - Symetry - letters of the alphabet - Fonts

WWYD?

Homework is Yr3 homework. They have a typed sheet and have to say which of the letters from a list have 1 or 2 lines of symetry.

One of the letters is "B". It is typed in Comic Sans MC font - so on the piece of paper - as typed it has 0 lines of symetry - because the bulges are uneven. But if it was typed in a different font it would probably have 1. Are Yr3 children expected to detect these subtlties?

Is the answer 1 or 0?

But is the difference to subtle for them to be expected to detect? They haven't had a look yet...I am just looking for a steer in advance to see what your opion is.

Would it be fair to say that both answers are correct?

I'd put a note in with the completed homework. Explain the dilema and say you have discussed with your dc re different fonts.

Ds yr2 and I'd give the answer 1 as he would not be expected to pick up on the subtle difference. Not sure if they would even by yr3 either.

I would imagine that they wouldn't have even noticed the font. So I would say 1.

Sorry about all the 'woulds'

If the options are 1 or 2 lines of symmetry, I'd say the answer is 1. And the teacher hasn't noticed that the font makes that incorrect.

Today DD1 had to "find the ten words hidden in this word-search". She found 13 and I can see two more. I really wish the people that produce these sheets would proof-read them properly!
