Does your school have a DVD club or a DVD Night?

Does the school your children attend have a DVD Club ie where you borrow a DVD for a week and return it for say £1.00? if so do you know how this works with legal issues? Also on a simalar vein the same with a DVD night where children watch a DVD at school but again pay to watch with popcorn etc? just wondered if this was legal? thanks

We had a film night in school. On the letter sent out it was £2 per head for treats and watch film for free. (something like that), I think school is covered under some license.

We have a PTA Film Night which I am in charge of!

We show 2 films - one to Rec-Yr3 and one for Y4, 5 and 6.

Ratatouille
Home Alone etc

we charge £2.50 for film and drink and popcorn. Make a fortune and the parents get 2 hours childcare for little money.

We share the cost of the licence with the after school club and it costs us about £50 per year.

Contact your local council in the morning and ask for Licensing department. They will be able to tell you what is required and how to apply. You can usually do this on-line.

I arrange PTA events ie: school fairs, quiz nights, raffles, discos etc (with and without booze) - all licensing comes from local council, at a charge.

we have a "film club" that costs £1 - but that cost is for the refreshments NOT to see the film - gets around the license (apparently). So far have seen Shrek 3, Kung fu panda, muppets christmas, meet the robinsons - cant remember the others. A letter is sent home stating the film choice and also a permission slip. The school also do mufti days, penny days, school discos

and "bags for school"

The quiz night is not a really big earner, but it's allot of fun and a really good social event for the grown ups only. We tried it once with the kids ... never again - their attention span was 0 !!

Apart from the seasonal fairs (big earners), we also have sponsored events where the kids either walk around playground and field (great for exercise) or do an obstacle course (nothing strenuous) in the hall or outside , weather permitting. They take a sponsorship home 2 weeks leading up to the day and collect monies after. Each child gets a completion certificate (all arranged by the PTA). Bags to school are good (find it on Google). Discos are another goody (you need alcohol license for these events, also from council).

Can't think of others off top of head. Will dig out some more ideas.

What do you charge pp or per team? thanks for your help! i am new to this and want to be as much help as possible! still havent found out what penny days are!

sorry!!! its called a "penny run" and all the pupils bring in 1 and 2p coins and they line them all up in a big row and the class that has the longest "wins" extra play time. Extra money for school with no cost for a prize! Also have easter egg hunts at a small cost to parents
