I am filling in for a colleague for the next few weeks. It is a multi- composite class. Which novels would be good for this age group? I fancy a classic. They have just done a fairly modern one (Kensuke's Kingdom)
Excuse the hour, cannot sleep.

'I am David' by Ann Holm is for 9 - 12 year olds.

My mother read it to me when I was quite young. It is about a boy who escapes from a prison after the colonels took over in Greece (I think) and travels across Europe to find his mother.

The Hobbit?

Tom's Midnight Garden.
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Goodnight Mr Tom

The Secret Garden (I have read this to my 9-11 year olds recently, boys and girls, and they loved it.)

I'm not a teacher but remember loving "The Ship that Flew" at that age. Teacher used to read a chapter each home time and I could never wait for the next installment!

Skellig - about a boy who finds what might be an angel in his derelict garage
but a very unlikely angel
