Maybe they are fulfilling all their music syllabus in 2 weeks?

All work does not stop ime.

I was in school for the morning yesterday (play is on Monday) and even then they only spent 3/4 hr rehearsing.

Maybe yours have spent a bit too long - but take comfort - it will be really polished!

All work did stop at my DS's - after the TWO HOUR production I had to see his teacher about something else and grumbled gently about the excessive amount of time given to rehearsals. She agreed, and said she had not given a literacy or maths lesson for a fortnight. (This was not news to me.)

It is ridiculous. The show was quite cute and very polished but utterly unnecessarily long and there is no need for a bunch of 8-9yr olds to put on a polished show. The best (most memorable bit) was when the King fell off his ill-placed chair!

Kids' play that is Two hours long??? Wowza. Our Nativity play (only KS1 in it, anyway) is about 25 minutes long, and the children have all had testing ("assessments") this past week, as well as rehearsals. Carol singing for KS2, but they do less time rehearsing over all.

fgs music, drama and cerativity are always the first thing to be squeezed out of curriculum time - once a year they can be given priority imo

A 5/6/7/8/9/10 yo is not going to disadvantaged by having less or -shock horror- no school based literacy or numeracy for 2 weeks.

creativity (oops)

My school concert is on this week and i have been preparing for it on and off with my classes since early October (ok i am secondary and we are performing quite complicated stuff) but i have used curriculum time to do it - otherwise its impossible

abigproblem · 06/12/2008 19:45

I wouldn't care if they weren't bored stiff and not wanting to go to school because of it !!!!

Parents would be the first to complain if the school announced that there was no Christmas play! If you have one it doesn't get produced by magic-it takes a lot of work and a lot of rehearsing. Most DCs love doing them.
