Hi
My ds has become quite lapse about handing in his dinner money of late.
He is supposed to put it in the dinner tub every monday morning but most of the time its still sitting in his book bag.
It drives me nuts as on one occasion the money went missing despite my ds saying he had put it in the tub.
Luckily his teacher managed to find it.
Just wondering if his dinner money ever goes missing can they make me pay for it again.

I would think so.

If your son loses it befpore he hands it in, then yes of course they can make you pay for it again.

a "dinner tub" doesn't sound very secure - can you pay by cheque? Otherwise yes they'll make you pay twice because there is no proof he's paid. Why not suggest a different system?

cornsilk · 30/11/2008 11:56

Can't you hand it in for him or pay a term in advance?

Of course you would have to pay again-they haven't had the money! It would be like going to the shop for milk, finding you had lost the money and saying 'I would like it anyway because the money was in my pocket when I set off'! School meals are a business.

I agree that if they never receive there are entitled to ask for it again. However I also agree it is a ridiculously insecure system. Our school either accepts cash or cheque handed to the office, or payment through an online system. This can be done weekly/half-termly/termly. I would talk to the school about updating the way they do it.

belgo · 30/11/2008 12:19

Yes, good idea, speak to the school about updating the system. We get a bill from my children's school, and we pay that using internet banking.

This is a ridiculous system for the age group. I would demand a receipt (which they will find a real effort to do) or pay weekly/half termly by cheque. Schools still lose dinner money this way as well, but at least there is an audit trail.

Teachers are not supposed to collect money anymore. It should go straight to the office.
