Just realised (oops) that part of this weeks homework for my 8yr old is to "have a go at writing a Roman play, it doesn't have to be long". Have asked DS if they have done / talked about Roman plays in class & he says no and hasn't a clue where to start. He hates writing with a passion so any written homework is a chore.

Won't get chance to see teacher & ask before this is due in, so hoping one of you lovely people may have done similar & be able to give me a few tips.......thanks in advance!

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to write a dialogue between two characters - maybe a slave and a master or two gladiators about to go into the arena or a Roman soldier and an officer, for instance.
Just get him to research one of those topics and then write a little scene including some of the facts he has found out.
Here are some websites that might help
roman history for kids
Some stuff about gladiators and circuses

Sorry, last link should be Hadrian's Wall

I agree - just think of it as a short conversation between two people.
How about Pompei? Or the burning of Rome?

eemum · 27/11/2008 13:43

Fab, thanks for your help. A short conversation seems straightforward - think I had been over complicating!!

You could get some great ideas for a Roman/Briton conversation from the Reticulum Project website that Lady Glencora has linked to

Write a play about a Roman with height issues.

FabioTheLiterateCat · 27/11/2008 13:47

Call him Minimus.

FabioTheLiterateCat · 27/11/2008 13:48

Does it have to be in Latin?

FabioTheLiterateCat · 27/11/2008 13:54

I'm wasted on you people.

Ooo errr this is getting a bit advanced. IME Roman plays involve brothels and young family girls up the duff or else people eating their children on stage, having mistaken them for the stew. I wouldn't go there

Marina · 28/11/2008 11:01

PMSL at eating children on stage cory, a perfect antidote to the nativity play season
