Dressing Up for Percy the Park Keeper Day! Help!

Wasn't sure if this was a right section for this question but I hope somebody can help.

DS2 is in Yr R and has to dress up as a character from Percy the Park Keeper on Friday.

He wants to be a Fox but I am suffering a failure of imagination and can't think how to do ears or a fluffy tail. Am I restricted to stuffing newspaper in a pair of tights for the tail?

Any ideas please?

You can get a small piece of furry material from a haberdashers, sew it into a tail shape and then stuff it. Could buy a small piece of white fur as the end of the tail. Then sew it onto a pair of brown trousers and have a brown top with it.
Not sure about ears. We have a plastic fox mask that we got from a children's farm one time - some toy shops might have them.
If you want to go OTT with the fur, you could sew on extensions to the brown top cuffs and trouser hems and have them as kind of paws.

Thanks - I like the idea of that.

I was hoping to be able to achieve the total 'fox' look without spending money but it isn't to be, is it!? Not just the money but I now have to trail into town and buy the fur.

I am wondering if I can make some ears from the fur and sew them onto some ribbon or elastic. I wonder if they would stand up if I stuffed them.

You can probably do it for £5 or less if you are suitably determined (discounting the cost and hassle of going into town, of course ).

You could sew ears onto a cheap hairband (from Claire's Accessories or sim)- they would probably stand up better than on elastic?

Alternative to the rest of the brown outfit - isn't there one story where fox borrows lots of jumpers, hats, scarves, etc from Percy - or have I got the wrong animal?

Oh, good idea about the hairband - thank you.

I will investigate the jumper and scarfs story. Ds has a collection of Percy stories upstairs. However, he is such a hot bod that I doubt he would keep any of it on long so it might have to be plan A.

He has brown trousers and DS1 had to be a donkey or something in the Wizard of Oz a couple of years ago (a major part obviously) and he had a brown t-shirt. It might be a bit big but that will do.

Thanks for the help.

It's this one but I agree with the keeping things on problem - DS would be the same.

Niecie · 17/11/2008 15:11

Thanks for that - I hadn't even made it upstairs yet! (I have been out though - that's my excuse)

I didn't realise foxes where supposed to have white tummies. Can we forget that detail?![smile}

We won a percy the park keeper competition when ds2 was in nursery

he went as the hedgehog who kept bursting balloons(I can't remeber the name to the story)

He dressed in brown. We got a broom head wnd put cut up corks on the ends of the bristles....thats what happens in the story to stop the hedgehog busting the balloons and then made a backpack type harness to put it on his back. I sent him in this with a ballon and the book.

Hope this is of some help
