So ds is doing this strange letter thing at school to learn the sounds , for a it seems to be 'ants on my wrm are causing me alarm'
e is eggs in a pan etc etc

So if anyone is still with me do you know what they say for the 'n'. Ds is doing an areoplane thing with is arms and saying n is for aeroplane. Can anyone help?!

some sort of list would be good if anyone has one

It's the jolly phonics action by the sounds of things.

He's right about the n.

Basically the sounds correspond with the action (from the jolly phonics story), not the word if you see what I mean.

a = ants on arm
b = hitting a ball with a bat
c = castanets
d = (can't remember)
e = breaking an egg
f = deflating an inflatable fish
g = water gurgling down the plughole
h = hands on tummy, panting as though out of breath
i = mouse whiskers (the mouse is called Inky)
j = jelly wobble
k = castanets
l = licking a lolly
m = rubbing tummy for nice food
n = aeroplane noise
o = light switch on and off
p = blowing out candle
qu = duck quack with hand
r = dog holding blanket in teeth
s = snake
t = watching tennis
u = putting an umbrella up
v = driving a van
w = blowing on hands like the wind
x = x-ray gun
z = bee buzzing - hands like wings.

think n for aeroplane is nasty noisy aeroplane - to make sense of the n sound

He is learning Jolly phonics. If you go on jollylearning.co.uk yu can download a free guide. n is the sound an aeroplane makes - like nnnnnn. D is using drumsticks so he will pretend to bang a drum. j when you wobble like a jelly and so on.
We give our reception children letters and sounds booklets with a description of how to act out each sound so the parents can help practice. There is a different action for every sound.

The reason for the aeroplane is to get the pure sound - the droning nnnnnnnnnnnn rather than nuh which has a false vowel sound.

n is a stretchy sound - you can make it last for as long as you have breath.
