We are thinking of moving to Berkhamsted.
My oldest boy would start school next year. Anyone know which are the good schools (private & State) and waiting lists etc. Also, if you think it is a nice place to bring up a young family?

I would certainly say it's a good place to bring up kids.

The private schools (Collegiate) are great and the state schools are good too. but they are over subscribed so it would be worth looking into what catchment area you'd be in, as I think there are some areas which are bussed to Hemel now.

I have a little one of 5months and he's on waiting lists now.

Have two girls in the collegiate and they LOVE it. IT's a great school

Thanks - I have two boys, but did think I should probably get on some waiting lists asap. Glad to hear it's a nice place - would you recommend any of the nearby villages particularly ? I did want somewhere that was at least walking distance of reasonable shops / cafes etc - would I be better off nearer the high st ?

Would say nearer the High Street is better (we are within walking distance) - the villages are nice but can be remote and the main line to London is a huge plus with kids.

There is SO much to do near the High Street and it's very pretty too!!

MUM1369 - I started another similar thread to yours as we are also in a similar position. How have you been getting on?? We've started booking in to see schools and dome some house viewings...
