by the end of reception - be able to socialise at school, go to toilet on own, get dressed and undressed etc. Coping in the playground, eating packed lunch etc.

Be able to write most letters approximately right (back to front ok), numbers 1-10, own name, read simple words (or sound them out) at, in etc. Be able to sit and listen, work/play in a group, take turns etc.

Your August baby is only just starting out - don't expect miracles - the first few months are all about being in school and the social skills - the academic bit kicks in later (much later in some cases).

all those things! No chance of dd doing it before end of reception I reckon.

It is the end of the Foundation Stage so he is working on 6 different development areas:-
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication, language and literacy
Mathematical development
The development of knowledge and understanding of the world
Physical development and
Creative development.
which are assessed throughout the year on a scale of 1-9 with a profile drawn up. The school will already have done a baseline assessment on these when he started . Very few children achieve 9 across the board by the end of Reception.

Specific targets are described here
