Behaviour at school - Anyone having the same problem

Hi My son has just started school and in general he has always been fairly well behaved. Having been at school only a month i have been spoken to by the teacher times. He refuses to do things and has been very rough with some of the other children. I have tried discipling him at home with things like rewards and taking favourite toys away but nothing is working. I have tried speaking to him to see if there is a reason why but he is not saying anything. I do work evenings and wondered if this could be the reason because he is seeing a lot less of me but I am starting to worry. Any advice greatly received x x

It's very early days to call these behaviour problems. It sounds like he's unhappy, and not seeing you much could well be the cause. If you are concerned could you ask the teacher for a proper meeting so you have time to find out what her/his opinion is? I am sure you are trying to spend as much time with him as possible but is there something else you could do?

Is he young in his year? Is he in reception or year 1? How does the teacher seem to you? Is it quite a formal environment? It's worth thinking about what the school can do to help him too, he is very young to be linking home punishments with school behaviour and may not be understanding why you are taking things away at home?

It's not uncommon for children to take a while to settle, and it's often boys who struggle so don't panic!
