victorian moving toy

DS1 has been asked by school to design a Victorian moving toy which can be made in class!

Using a shoe box/cereal box, cams, wind up etc.

I am totally clueless, any advice?! )

car running from an elastic band? Sounds quite hard TBH! How moving does it have to be? You could make a rocking horse...

It is hard isn't it!

My best idea was stick wheels on the box and a piece of string and pull, lol

what about variation on spinning top some card in hexagon shape with stick through middle or string ?
