Feel awfull making DD1 go back to school but am 90% sure that she is well enough. Come and make me feel better.

She was off all last week for chicken pox and now seems to have picked up a bug. She is coughing a lot. But she is not deathly ill. If I told her she could stay home she would go back to bed now as she is very tired but she wouldn't be languishing on the sofa all day iyswim.

DD2 is also coming down with something and had every one inc DD1 awake half the night. DD1 was also kept awake a bit with her coughing. She cried when I made her get up. She has come round a bit now and is sitting in front of the fire to get warm. Thing is I know if I keep her off she will sharpen up loads after a bit more sleep.

She is reception btw.

oh, poor love. I think, if she was mine, I would keep her home. but then, I always err on the side of 100% sure they are fine or they stay off.

She has one spot on her leg uptill last night but has had a very restless night so it could be that.

DD1 has come round loads more now and is currently writing her name. She learned this while she was off and is eager to go and show her new friends.

I'll give her some cough medicine before she goes and let her teachers know that she is not 100% yet.

I must admit I'd be tempted to let her have the day off. Let her have a quiet day of rest and sshe'll get better quicker.

I would say that if she is unwell enough for you to tell a teacher she is not 100%, I would keep her off and if were a teacher I would expect her to be kept off.

Oh you have me all confused now. I don't do nursemaiding. I am a terrible mum. If you head is not falling off you are not ill.

She has had her breakfast and is looking much better. The school is only around the corner so if she needs to come home I can be back there in 15 mins.

Plus she seems much happier now. She has just asked if she goes to school without a fuss can she have Harry Potter on dvd. If she is well enough to bargin she is well enough to go to school imo.

Oh and now she is tantrumming because I have washed the school skirt. Not the actions of a sick child imo.

I would keep her off; a consultant once told me that he sees an awful lot of secondary infections in children who've had chicken pox because it knocks the immune system. Sounds like she's not really all right.

Also, one spot on her leg- is that crusted over? If not, she could still be contagious.

The one spot is on DD2. All of DD1's spots are crusty now.

Okay i have just asked her if she wants to go to dancing today She says yes.

General consenus here is that if she is well enough to dance she is well enough to go to school. No?

Usually I would say go but I would be very cautious in this case given that she has just had chicken pox and is very tired, for the reasons that Cory says. So I personally would keep her home just for once.

I think the tantrumming over the skirt could very well be because she is tired. She honestly to me does not yet sound 100%. Just because she wants to go dancing does not mean she could cope with it when she gets there.
She is only reception - let her convalesce for another day.
Also, if you feel you have to tell the teacher she is not 100% yet than if I were teh teacher I would thing 'why is she here then?'

Keep her off. She's probably all post-viral and knackered.

When dd had chickenpox it took her quite a long time afterwards to not look pale and tired. She was at pre-school so no problem giving her the opportunity to recover. Can see is slightly more tricky when at school, but if she's not 100% I would keep her at home snuggled on sofa.

She doesn't sound 100% to me so as she is only in reception I would keep her off.

I have kept DS off today as we had a busy weekend and he is tired. Couldn't wake him up this morning. He is 7 and in Yr 3.

I would imagine that after chickenpox and then a bug she will tire very quickly and will not fancy dancing after all. Tantrums say to me she is tired. I would send her back to bed and make sure she is better for tomorrow.

If she is ill enough that she wants to sleep you need to keep her off. She is probably just going to end up iller again if you push her into going back to school.

I don't do nursemaiding neither, but my dkid's school is a nightmare and sends them straight home if they have so much as a sniffle, so it's pointless me seding them in even when I think they shoiuld be there.

Ah I went with my first instinct and sent her in. The thing with DD1 is she is very good at making you think she is ill when she is not. She has been known to feign illness at age 2 so she could go and visit her cousin.

I explained to her teacher that she had been ill and was still a little tired but probably looked like a fruit loop as at the time DD1 was practising her headstands with a friend against the cloakroom wall . She came round 100% by the time she saw her friends.

I hate keeping her home if she could be at school. I don't want to send the message that it is okay to stay home if you a bit of the sniffles as imo it's not. I know that is harsh when she is only 5 but with only 45mins to decide if she is well it's difficult to tell if she is faking.

And one of her little friends had drew her a get better soon card. We saw her in Tesco yesterday so she knew that DD was expected back in school today.

I think I made the right decision anyway after seeing her with her friends. She seemed her usual nutty self again.

Well I'm now 100% convinced that I made the right choice. Her school is right the near the local park. My nan picked her up from school today and DD1 insisted that they call at the park on the way home. So she does't seem to be very ill at all
