I know you've posted that best pedagogic practice (I've been longing to use that for weeks) says that learning spelling lists for tests isn't useful, and I well believe that. See Mumsnet threads passim and Colditz's current thread.

Do you know of any research/documents/studies that back this up? I want to raise it at our curriculum committee at school (am governor) and would like to have data. I've tried googling but without much success. Any ideas or references appreciated!

Not till after half term, so early November some time - for some reason the date isn't on my minutes.

Anything would be good, and of course preferably references for what approach should be taken instead! I always fear the grandmother egg sucking thing, but they've just got 'outstanding' Ofsted so head probably happy and open to suggestions!
