DS's homework is to learn simple definitions of these words. I've looked them up but finding them hard to explain in simple terms. Is there a website where things in the curriculum like this are listed please? Can anyone help please?

Data
Tally
Table
List
Pictogram
Block graph

Many thanks.

Data - lots of numbers

Tally - counting items

Table - putting numbers in some kind of order (assisted with an illustration)

List - one item under another (again, illustrated)

Pictogram - a graph where you use pictures to show the data (one picture = a certain amount of things)

Block graph - just show a picture. A way of comparing numbers of different things.

Data - I would say "information"

Data - information
Tally - keeping a count of diff info (in 5s)
Table - a chart of info with rows and columns
List - information one by one down the page
Pictogram - pictures that show information
Block graph - counting information using blocks in columns

As an experienced Y2 teacher, I think this homework is a little strange. None of this will have any meaning for him - they are just words!

Can only think that the teacher wants him to recognise that there are different ways of showing information - but learning definitions at Y2 wouldn't be especially helpful for this, I don't think.

Thank you for that. They're doing this at school at moment so have been told the definitions, but need to learn them properly at home. However, we weren't told what definitions they'd been given which is why I didn't want to confuse him! Thanks again.
