Neighbours all go to a different school

DS is a Y1 and doesn't go to our local school as we preferred one a bit further up the road (but still local enough). However, all the other kids in the street go to local school. I don't want to change as he is settled and doing well, but wondered if anyone else is in similar situation and how you deal with it. Am having some of his classmates round for tea over the next few weeks.

mine have always gone to schools outside the area. In some ways it works well, as they have 2 sets of friends, some they invite home for tea from school, and others they play out with from the local area.

Scouts, brownies and local activites also work well to socialise them with their local friends.

Thanks Forever. Have put his name down for local Beavers where there will be kids from both schools. Just sometimes feel outnumbered!

I am in the same situation, my children love it as for them it means they have two sets of friends.

They also do out of school activities, beavers, cubs, football etc and some of the neighbours do these things too.

But a small word of warning: It's GREAT if you have social DCs who will readily 'make friends' wherever they go but if your DCs is/are shy- well, I've basically had to go to Beavers/Cubs WITH my DSs for a year as a 'parent helper' before DS1 made a good enough friend there to want to go without me! DS2 who is even more 'non-committal' barely knows the names of the other boys in his Beavers, after a year. Trouble is, the village we live in is very self contained thus 90% of the DSs in the Scouting movement there go to the same school, albeit in different years. My DSs go to the school in the nearest small town but before I'm accused of making my bed, we had no CHOICE because we've been priced out of the housing market thus rent - thus have exactly 60 days security of tenure.
