I've put 2 schools down on the form.

DS2 is at the school of my first choice.
We live in catchment area, very close to the school.
This school is over subscribed.

DS1 is at the partener school of my 2nd choice.
Its' our local Catholic school.DD is baptised.
This school is under subscribed.

Should I scrub out my 2nd choice, and only put my 1st choice down? There is no reason DD shouldn't get in to my 1st choice; unless they think I don't mind her going to my 2nd chioce, which I would!

(Please don't let this end up in unanswered threads!!!)

it shouldn't matter, whether it actually does in practice I don't know.

Your choices only come into account should you be offered a place at both schools - then they'll give you a place at the first choice school only. So always worth putting down your genuine preferences.

LynetteScavo · 21/09/2008 22:05

Ah, that makes sence, MrsMattie.

So they won't think "oh she wouldn't really mind a place at that under subscribed school, we'll put her there, then we can keep other people happy"

If you only put one school and in the unlikely event you didn't get that school you would be offered a place after all other applications in the area had been allocated. It could be any school in your LEA and not necessarily the one you would have chosen second. So always best to put a second choice!

Yep!@Lynette

And yep, tis true what wheresthehamster says, too!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 21/09/2008 22:23

Wheresthehamster is absolutely right.

Some parents (I gather) only list one school, thinking that the LEA will 'have' to give them a place at that one but it doesn't work like that. If the school is over-subscribed and they don't get in, they have to wait until all the other places have been allocated and accepted, and then they will be offered whatever's left. Our LEA has a shortage of primary places and some children last year weren't allocated a place at all!
