When do they start to write with a pen at school? And is it still a traditional fountain pen?

Ruby - when do they typically earn their "pen licence"? I amssume this is based on quality of handwriting?

During Year 4 at ours and an ink pen

At DD's school it is sometime during Y3 I think. No to fountain pen though - think the girls get to choose.

In Year 2 at DD's school, IF they reach a point where they are writing confidently, with few mistakes and rubbings out.

The pens are school-issue, Berol fibre-tip handwriting pen. They are serious status symbols!

(DD's best friend has fabulous handwriting and DD has suddenly discovered the motivation to improve hers so that she "earns" a pen at the same time as her friend. I like her teacher's style )

Yr3 if they complete the handwriting sheets. Berol handwriting pens too.
