My 6 yr old ds has cried for the last two mornings saying he doesn't want to go to school - help!

He has just started in yr 2 at a new school, was absolutely fine for the first week and seemed quite excited by everything. On Wednesday he came home and said he hadn't had a good day and that he didn't know what to do. He is a very sensible and deep thinking boy. He is enjoying the work and loves his new teacher. We had one boy in his class round for tea and so he does know people. He went to a tiny school before and this is a very big school and he is really struggling. He cries and says he just wants to come home with me. As you can imagine I am struggling - I have neevr known him like this before about anything.

Go in and have a chat with his teacher, she may be able to shed some light.

His teacher has been very kind about it and said that she felt he had settled very quickly and made friends and was doing well. She seemed surprised that he was in such a state.

My children went to a small school and then we moved. They now attend a large school. DS found the noise difficult at first. It can be tiring once the excitment wears off.

Ditto, my son seemed pretty much OK in Foundation and Year 1, but the past couple of days of Year 2 has wanted to go home and not into class. It's not like him. I think friendships have changed, play is now confined to breaktimes, so the demands on the schoolday are different, perhaps he's feeling a bit worried. DH is away on business too, so I'm not surprised he's feeling unsettled, perhaps a bit lost. Am going to have a cuddle up on the sofa with him this afternoon and try to find out what's on his mind. DH is back tonight, if DS is still unsettled at school next week I will have a quiet word with the teacher. It's heartbreaking though...

bubbles, I too had this problem this week with DD1 (5, in Year 1). She too has started a new school, gone from a class of 15 to 30 (she left private to go into State) and her school has 4 classes in each year! She cried and cried on Tuesday, we ended up keeping her off as she was worn out and we let her rest that day. She was fine the next day. Could he just be very tired from the stress of it all?

I would just reassure him and gently let him know that he has to go, all will be fine and try not to do too much after school, just let him rest.
