Can anyone tell me anything about the prep schools in Stockport.

Hi, I've posted this in education too.
Just moved to Cheadle and having made the decision to go 'independent' I was wondering if anyone has any info on the various schools in the area. There seems to be quite a lot here and we're seeing a few over the coming weeks. The ones we've booked to see are
Ladybarn House
Greenbank
Cheadle Hulme
Hulme Hall
Ramilies Hall
Stockport Grammar

Are there any others we should consider?
Anything to consider/ask?
Which ones have a reputation for being pushy as I'd like to avoid that.
We're keen for the boys to have access to lots of sport and music and small class sizes.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Any advice or inside knowledge would be much appreciated.

Ramilies Hall specialises in SEN esp dyslexia.

Hulme Hall: I don't recommend the nursery as there is no trained teacher, just nursery nurses and helpers.

Stockport Grammar is the most academic and most difficult to gain entry to the secondary part. I don't know anything about the primary section though.

WE're looking at reception entry but I understand some are very oversubscribed very early. I'm looking at nurseries too so the HH info is helpful,thank you.

One of my colleagues wasn't that happy with Greenbank nursery - his dd didn't settle there, noone seemed to play with her much. He pulled her out and sent her to another one nearby, which he says is much better - can get you the name if you need it.
One of my friend's dd goes to Greenbank school, she is happy with it as far as I know.
Cheadle Hulme is supposed to be good but I don't actually know anyone who goes there.

Thank you Paddingtonbear. Interesting hearing the conflicting views about Greenbank. Perhaps the school is better than the nursery.

I've heard good things about Cheadle Hulme but it all seems to be anecdotal rather than anyone having first hand knowledge.

We looked at a few of these schools. I liked both Greenbank and CHS. Not so keen on Ladybarn though it does have a good reputation. I didn't even visit Hulme Hall as friends told me not to bother.

I wouldn't be concerned about the teacher nursery thing. Dd and ds went to similar nursery at a prep school and it was wonderful. If the managemtn is good and the organisation is good they can deliver just a good curriculum and ds is very advanced on entry to reception.

I agree. Most daycare nurseries do not have a teacher on staff. You usually only find this in state nursery classes attached to a school.

We weren't concerned about the teacher situation but we were told that facilities were practically non existent at Hulme Hall.
