First time mum type panic: first day tomorrow and can't find PE shorts...

...I swear I had them, labelled them, they are required tomorrow, but can I find them? Hell, no.

Should I calm down and send dd in with pink shorts for PE till I can buy some more, or knock on neighbours doors' (those with LOs at same school) begging? Its a small, friendly, state primary - if that makes any difference.

I know this is probably a daft, unimportant question but I seem to have hung my day 1 anxieties on it....

They're terribly unlikely to be doing PE on day 1. And even if they do, they'll spend the whole of their PE time in the first term getting undressed and then dressed again, hilariously badly and very very slowly, without ever making it to the PE hall.

Ask the teacher when you drop her off whether she'll need her shorts - I bet you anything she won't need them for at least the first week.

Take time to look for them and stop fretting.

I doubt very much that they will do PE if it is the first day.

ChippyMinton · 07/09/2008 16:20

Does she definately need them tomorrow? If it's her first day, it's unlikely. Take a spare pair and check with the teacher when thay are needed.

Do they have tracky bottoms as well? She can always wear those.

But I agree, don't worry, she probably won't do PE tomorrow.

DS2 starts tomorrow as well and I can understand your anxieties. I was also worried as I realised yesterday he has nothing to put his PE kit in so I went out and bought a bag today - even though I know that he probably won't do PE either!!

Thanks

Think I just needed to hear myself being daft somewhere

I've looked everywhere and wasted half the afternoon. Will take spare pink shorts with me and ask teacher!

Caprica, I bought them from the school office at the end of last term - extraordinary black striped silky number

I would have imagined no PE on first day too, but the teachers specifically asked me if I had the kit when they came on the home visit last week, so twas easy to hook my panic on to that....

Oh, and the letter to dd with instructions for first day of term/welcome says 'bring your PE kit with you'

I bought my dd some PE shorts in Sainsbury's (well they're cycling style really)

I assume Tesco and Asda have them too. You could also try Mothercare, BHS or Adams.

Caprica - BHS and Sainsburys both do PE shorts.

Do you have a local specialist schoolwear shop? I only go to ours for sweatshirts with logos normally as it is pricey but they do all PE kits too and can order them if needs be.

desperatehousewifetoo · 07/09/2008 16:38

Adams had some small sized pe shorts last year for my ds.

TwoToTango · 07/09/2008 17:25

I've got a pair of hardly worn black PE shorts (matalan age 6/7) if anyone wants them.

Hi Eli - dont worry about it.

Caprica - I got some in Sainsburys for DD. Look a bit like football shorts but the waist is quite stretchy so they should last ages

believeintheboogie · 07/09/2008 21:01

I wouldnt worry about it too much, most schools dont do PE on the first week and when I worked in schools the reception teacher didnt get them changed into pe kit till after October half term as it took them so long to get changed when they first started that they missed the lesson.

Elibean · 07/09/2008 22:57

Thanks all

EV, fancy seeing you on this section good luck to your dd tomorrow!
