Uniform - does it really matter as kids just don't notice this sort of thing do they?

I have bought DS1 the £4.50 pair of trousers from M&S and when I have got them home and looked I can tell they are their cheaper range. We are needing to watch all spending atm but don't want him to suffer if he really should have the more expensive trousers. PE shorts were easy, the only ones I could get ere £3.50 for two pairs in Sainsbury's and they are fine.

No-one will notice at all - other kids tend not to notice if someone has their trousers on inside out or backwards (common afgter PE lessons), so I'm sure they won't notice inferior fabric!

My DS has a selection of uniform from ASDA, tesco and Sainsburys (as do most of the other children) he has just finished Year1 and I have just binned all his polo shirts as the Vanish has given up. It really isn't worth spending out on more expensive stuff - although I have to say the knees in his trousers have survived by some miracle!

I felt daft posting but at times I need reassurance about the silliest things.

I don't want my kids to miss out just because we are short on money.

my ds wouldn't have a clue. He has been wearing jogging trousers rather than normal school trousers, and blue canvas shorts, because I hate grey school trousers and shorts. No one has said anything and he doesn't even seem aware that he is the only one not wearing grey.

ds1 had second hand grey trousers from e-bay, not one pair was brand new.

No-one can tell the difference, some boys are wearing their older brother's hand me downs anyway and other mums use e-bay or swap used boys stuff for girls stuff etc if they have different sex siblings.

I promise you no one will notice as the kids will turn up in all sorts of different brands and someone who pays for the more expensive brand of new trousers will be quite annoyed when their son rips the knee of one leg open "playing reindeers" whereas I chucked them into the "maybe I'll get round to making them into shorts in the summer" basket and forgot about them !

The uniform variations that chasingsquirrels mentions would not be permitted at our primary school.

I don't think it matters. They don't compare quality, the only thing they would notice is if you send them in a green jumper instead of the red one they're supposed to wear. TBH they look like they've had it six months after the first week anyways .

FYI - Just ordered some of DD's uniform at Marks and Spencers (bit's and bobs that I didn't get at Sainsburys) and got 20% off using the following code.. WOHBAUT8 not sure how long it will work for though.

ds1 did mention that he didn't have to have grey/navy pants so I guess my sensible colour choices were outshone by some brighter briefs when changing for PE but this was easily sorted with a trip to Tescos for some pants of his own choosing.

My dd has just finished yr1 and all her uniform, from reception too, was a mish mash of supermarket, Woolies & Matalan.

It all ends up getting dragged round the floor anyway!

The only thing I spend more money on is her shoes...

Will be supermarket shopping for this years too!!
