Worrying about ds school uniform!

Just read the school prospectus. Ds will need to keep his dinner money on his person, in a shoulder purse or a belt purse.

Where the heck do you buy one of these? Think I prefer the belt purse option

I'd either try a bag shop if you have one anywhere near, or the internet? Seems strange for a primary school to expect children to carry money with them IMO.

At primary age ?! I had a horrid webby belt thing with a zip purse pocket in secondary.

Ah nostalgia , sadly it was one of these in snot green ! Can't see any self respecting boy wearing one though !!

I know, I thought it was strange that primary school kids would have to carry their own dinner money.

I thought I'd be sending in a cheque every term. I will read the prospectus again, but sure I read that right 1st time!

I can remember those hideous belts, with zip pocket things from secondary school too.

So hope I'm wrong about this . I think I will have to resort to knocking on people's doors down my street (the households who have kids) and asking them

Am dead nervous and excited re ds going to school. Finding it hard to think straight!

Have you had a "welcome new parents" evening? You could ask why they think this is a good idea.

Why would they leave the responsibility of money to a 4 year old???? The mind boggles.

We send in a cheque each half term, or you can opt to pa it weekly but it is in a sealed envelope that is handed to the teacher as they go through the door!

Ours is £1.60 per day for reception and year 1, I wouldn't want my 5 year old carrying money, surely makes smaller children targets to the older children to steal their money!

I agree, young children carrying their own money, makes opportunities for bullying rife

Have re read prospectus, and it def says that children pay at the cash till for their meals. And should carry their money in a belt or shoulder purse.

Missed the opportunity to ask about this at the parents evening, it was a month ago and this issue did not enter my mind at all.

Planning to knock on parents doors in the street to ask them if there are any alternative arrangements. Don't think my ds will like paying and all the faffing round that this entails.

Failing that, I'm going to have to get super organised and make him a packed lunch.

At my dds primary school they take money in each day,we get a menu for the term its done over 3 weeks then back to the start of the menu.We alternate between dinners and packlunches can decide on the morning,it works quite well,the purses are handed in at registration that way they know how many dinners to make.

It probably depends on which company does the dinners - I work at a junior school, often in the office, & we're not supposed to have anything at all to do with the dinner money, and neither are the teachers - it's meant to go straight to the kitchen staff, so if you decide in the morning you want your child to have a dinner they have to bring their money.

However they are older than cherrylips' DS & there is the opportunity to pay by cheque in advance. The company may be trying to avoid the bank charges & admin costs of cheques.

Oh I see, different situations re this issue becoming clearer now!!

We have to learn so much, when are dc's start school don't we?

I'm going to liaise with moms down my street. And my poor Dad is going to look in local hand - bag shop for a little belt purse!! Of course this means that ds will have to wear a belt to school. (another item to remember to buy!!)
