Would it be normal for dd's written english to be a higher level than her read english?

I thought it was normally the other way round

But it was 4b in written and 3a in read

It just seemed a bit odd

If he was at my school we would be looking at some kind of small group booster work to bring up his writing level as it is quite a significant difference.
Perhaps you should ask your DS's school what they think he needs.

Thank you for your comments. Have spoken to teachers, they are never concerned.Hopefully will get it sorted this year.
