Please help! Is West Side Story appropriate for Y5/6?

Tomorrow is my last day of term teaching Y5/6 music. As we have been looking at musicals, I wanted to show them West Side Story.

However, I have left the DVD at school and now can't view it tonight to check for appropriateness. My memory of it is rather rusty - is there anything in it that might be unsuitable for Y5/6 (9-11 year olds)?

Er....Gee Officer Krupke...Krup You!
I don't think it's inappropriate, I think Bernstein is a genius and the title sequences alone deserve an Oscar, but some parents might grumble about knife crime implications I guess...
Risk it. All the others are just as bad (Nazis, miscegenation and racism, rape, marriage breakdown - good old Rodgers and Hammerstein...)

It is PG. I don't think there is anything really inappropriate in it, but does your school allow PG-rated films to be shown? Many primary schools only allow U rated films.
FWIW I would happily allow my 8 and 10 year olds to watch it. In fact, I think I will get it for them!

It's a PG. You're covered

I was just thinking the same Stella
I feel pretty, oh so pretty...

Yes, we show PG films.
Thanks, think I will show it tomorrow - fairly educational (and I will get time to tidy the instrument trolley!)

there is a rape scene which sometime is a bit more graphic. I know in one production some parents were shocked by it.
