How good is it to get a '3' at the end of KS1 ?

I've just had DS1's yr2 report.

In 12 months, he seems to have gone from an inattentive and lazy child (according to his yr1 teacher) to a joy to teach.

His scores are 3 for everything except writing, where he got 2A. According to last year's teacher he was pretty much SN for his writing. I knew all along that this teacher was much better, or at least he has responded to her much better, but this seems like a massive improvement.

According to my mum (who was a primary teacher) these scores are nothing short of fantasic, but is that really true, or are they given out like sweets?

ds got 3's in all his sats at this age, he wasn't allowed to try any higher. He's highly gifted.

Well done. These are great scores.

vv good
you can't get above a 3 afaik ds1 is also highly gifted and achieved level 3 well done to your ds esp given his struggle with writing, fabulous effort.

2A is brill and is at the top end of where he should be for end of KS1, 3 is brill!!

well done to your DS

dd2 got all 3s and is a perfectly normal child.
Sweeties I think.
dd1 did 2 when she was in yr 2.

My dd got identical ks1 as your ds Whatdayisit. My ds also got mainly 3's but is dyslexic and got a 2 for spelling and 2a for writing.

Didn't the school give you a table showing how many got level 1, 2 3 etc and comparisons to national average. I think it was about a third of the class that got 3's

My ds also got 3's but not in writing. He's incredibly unco-ordinated so no surprises there! I was dead chuffed with him! I'm intending to do 'fun' handwriting practise in the Summer to bring him on so hopefully he'll catch up with that.

Oh thank you everyone, it seems like there are a lot of these top end marks about, but TBH, after what last year's teacher had to say about him, I'm just relieved he met the standard. He say's he's enjoyed infants, but he's looking forward to Juniors because the work will be harder

My DS got a 3 in his reading and he scored well in his writing with a 2B, he also got a 2B in Maths and a 2 in science. For a 31st August boy, I'm bloody proud of him, especially when we were told when he started school that he wouldn't achieve much because they thought he was dyspraxic like his brother.
