Do you think headteachers REALLY read 200-odd school reports in their entirety?

Or do you suspect, as I do, that they skim-read until they get to PSHE & Citizenship and General Progress?

We don't get a headteacher comment.

ours was a secondary school report littered with spelling mistakes and a crappy headteacher comment.

MaryBS · 11/07/2008 07:32

Our head writes a comment on each one, and its usually spot on, the ones we get.

Unlike the teacher last year that cut and pasted from one school report to my daughter's and left the original name in

forevercleaning · 11/07/2008 07:35

We got a ' she has done blah blah...' for my son's report this year.

2sugars · 11/07/2008 07:42

Mary! I guess we all know it happens, but personally I would make doubly sure I covered my tracks. Did you point it out to him/her? It must be incredibly disappointing for the child receiving it.

FC, I hate those 'we have covered xyz this term' stuff too. We know that, we want to know how they did.

No I didn't - like you say, it happens... DD was OK about it, she thought it was pretty funny she got called the wrong name!

sarararararah · 11/07/2008 08:20

Some heads do! My Mum is a headteacher and I know she does - doesn't actually take as long as it takes the teachers to write them all! (I am a teacher too.)

singersgirl · 11/07/2008 08:57

I know our deputy head reads them all, because she has told me it takes days of her time!

bamboostalks · 11/07/2008 09:09

Our head proof reads them all, it takes him ages.

StellaDallas · 11/07/2008 09:46

Our head has 450 to read. And he does. The comments always show that he knows the children really well.

LadyMuck · 11/07/2008 09:48

My children got exactly the same comments from the head teacher, as I suspect did most of the infants.

filthymindedvixen · 11/07/2008 10:13

My boys get the same comment each year But during the year, the headteacher does talk to me personally about my children, so I know she cares and knows about them....

popsycal · 11/07/2008 10:15

yes
when i was head of year i had to read 180 in their entirity - to proof read and to add comments
so yes

robinpud · 11/07/2008 10:17

My kids' Head reads every one and writes fabulous comments.

My boss reads everyone (550+) but only comments on the Yr 6 .

RustyBear · 11/07/2008 11:01

Our head reads & handwrites comments (rest is typed)& sends back any with mistakes.

roisin · 12/07/2008 13:54

Our primary HT proofreads every report - nearly 500, and writes a long personal comment! Chair of Govs is trying to persuade her to contract out the proofreading, and just read the summary bit... Unsuccessfully so far.
