If there is a good reason for taking holiday in term time are you allowed or are you allowed to take child out of school for so many days anyway in term time? Child will be in reception class and its only 5 days.

Hello! at my ds school they 'allow' up to ten days per yr so long as their attendance is good. ? above 90% i think.

I take ds1 out every yr for one wk to go on hol. WE take him a way main summer, but i also like a second cheaper hol in term time. We have to fill in a holiday form which is granted if attenadance ok. WE have always had it no probs. Have done it since reception and he is now yr 4. Its only 5 days i dont see the problem as he is hardly ever off sick.

I've always taken DD out for a holiday as I couldn't afford it any other way. Its 10 days no questions asked. I know someone who wanted to take a child out for 3 months travelling. It went to the goveners and it was agreed.

i think at recep level you're ok. we have done one week only ever for really good reason (I had to go to USA for work, honest, and it was too good an opportunity not to take kids). if there is an attendance issue they may say no

Thanks folks, I have a medical condition which makes booking insurance well ahead of time very difficult and don't want to book an expensive half-term holiday without insurance. This way I can leave it longer before I have to book up as I won't be limited by availability or tied to huge prices.

I wouldnt even worry about it! What is 5 days out of the whole yr. Most kids probably have a hell of a lot more off than that for sickness

Malory- that is SHOCKING!!

We do have approx 5 days for holidays, but my boys are in for every other day of term, its only those 5 that they have off

We are allowed 10 days but not in september when the are settling in and not around exam time.

Plus they have to have good attendance for it to be granted.

My friends school are very strict and do not allow it!!! But in a letter back to the school my friend pointed out that (this is in secondary though) they take lots of days out for school trips, and overnight trips and skiing/France etc

Technically your child could be ill for a week!
