Hi. I just want to write down how I feel. DD (5yrs) has finished for the summer today. She had a wonderful teacher who has been with the school for years, has done a wonderful job teaching my DD and her class (19 in the class). Wednesday I took in scones, jam and clotted cream in a basket for the teacher and teaching assistant (who has been full time since day 1). They loved them! I thought this was a lovely idea of mine!

We also did a collection to get her tickets for the ballet and some treatments in a spa. We gave this to her yesterday. It has all been very overwheling as she is also retiring this year. She was very tearful yesterday and so were the mummy's!

Today we went in for speach day where they presented the year 6 leavers with certificates etc and the rest of the school got awards for their progress, my DD got an award so I was very proud.

I think it has only just hit me that she will be moving into yr 1 with a new teacher etc and that we wont see mrs....... again or we wont be going down to the classroom we have been so used to for the past year. I feel very sad and slightly emotional tonight.

Thanks for reading!

sac - I agree it is difficult as you know that she is moving now into 'proper' school. Reception is really a lot of playing and the hard work starts now. I think we all appreciate the importance of a good, caring teacher which it sounds like your DD has had and knowing she is retiring makes it even more emotional. However it sounds like you showed her how appreciative you were of her teaching and you can now look forward to your DD's fab year 1 teacher.

I just hope yr 1 will be as good as reception for DD. They didn't really get much time for playing in reception, it was always full on.
