Any ideas for a good portable science project for yr 2 boy?

ds (7) needs a good science project to do and then take to show to his Beaver Scout group for a badge. I just need something easy and straightforward that isn't going to be like building Clifton Suspension Bridge.
Any ideas? We have a couple of those science experiment books but they're all so messy and unportable.

What about building a volcano with baking soda, vinegar and food colouring. OK, messy but very portable.

Thanks OrmIrian, I'll look into that, actually he even has a kit!

(Wonders if that will count for the self starting Beaver....?)

How long have you got?

Empty plastic lemonade bottle

Fill one third with compost
Drop in some seeds
Water

Bingo

Vivarium

See the roots and seedlings develop, 4 weeks say

Cut the bottle open afterwards and plant out.

Thanks so much for your ideas!

I've got 2 or 3 weeks.
