Depends on the area, but usually children start in Reception year the term before or after they turn 5. So She might start the January after her birthday (2010).

Nursery school also depends on the area, usually not a definite requirement if you don't want, but there may be state schools locally that also have a nursery, or you might be able to get subsidised local places. For example where we live (Westminster), most state schools have a nursery, and my DCs started part-time when they were 3, then joined Reception at 5.

Best thing to do is look at the website for the local authority if you know where you are going to be, they should have all the admissions details on it.

Many areas only do one intake now. So your DS that turns 5 in the November will be able to start straight away.

Generally it's the school year that they turn 5 which they start in.

They don't legally have to start school (or home education!) until the start of the term after their 5th birthday, so you won't be in trouble if you don't get her into school right when you arrive.

But the typical time that they start school depends which part of the country you are in, so you would need to get local info on that.
