Moving schools

My son is currently in year 1 and my other son is in nursery. They both go to the same school. My eldest is speech delayed he’s gotten so much better but still not at the same pace as his peers. There is a school that is near us which I’ve been thinking to move them to because of it being more convenient and closer. I’m worried that he might find it hard to make friends especially as he’s speech delayed and he’s quite shy. He currently has his cousin in the same class as him who he’s always playing with as think she’s become a comfort zone as well as a friend. I want him to be able to make more friends. Also in the current school he’s at we have soo many relatives with so many of them being judgy etc and I’d like to keep my kids away from that. What do you think I should do? Is it wise moving school or no? Thanks in advance.

How much closer is it? Is that the only reason you want to move?

I moved mine end year 1 and they did ok, but anxious initially but settled eventually.

It’s a 7 minute walk whereas I have to drive to their current school which isn’t too far but this way we have the option to walk when it comes to snowy days etc. I was hoping to move them both when they start their new school year if it was possible.

I’m a very private person especially when it comes to my kids so when I send them to their current school I’m always getting questions about the kids from family members especially when it comes to my eldest and sometimes I don’t really want to be answering any questions that a lot of the time make me feel like are asked to belittle him.

The distance alone sounds like a good reason to move tbh. Not having to drive is massive and they can walk there by themselves when they are older.

That’s true I actually didn’t even think about that being a reason too.

We moved schools, we did playdates with the new children that would be in their class. Just low key ones at the park to make friends before school. Made it all a little less daunting when they started.
