Waiting list for children who have just started reception

We are in Oxfordshire and our child has just started at a primary school. This was our second preference school. We accepted the place and went on waiting list (deadline to join 30th April)for first preference. We have now started at the second preference school, but trying to figure out it we are still on the waiting list. The admissions website is not clear saying the waiting list ends 30 June, but not clear if this was the 30rd June past (when another round of offers was made) or 30 June 2027.

You need to contact the school as they do things differently.

It may be the case that children are removed from the list at the end of summer term bc the school finds that parents are not keen on moving once they have started at another school. Or you may still be on the list until next June – either way, the school can help you.

Thank you. This school says all waiting lists are managed by Oxfordshire council. We will call them on Monday, just wondering if anyone has experience of going on the waiting list in April and whether they stayed on it into the school term.

The Schools Admissions Code requires schools to maintain a waiting list until 31st Dec at main points of admissions, so Reception included.

Saying that, I would still check. Not everywhere follows the rules correctly.
