How has everyone’s reception starters settled into school?

I had absolutely no idea how my autistic 5 year old would cope with starting school but he’s done absolutely amazing and I’m so proud of him!!

He’s an August born so we did the summer born deferral and he started in reception this year after an extra year at nursery 😊

We saw so many schools before finding this one and we are now on a flexischooling arrangement of 3 days in school and 2 days at home/doing other things.

He’s been in for 2 mornings so far and he’s been tired but he’s loved it and wants to go back!! Next week we’re trying 1 morning and 2 full days to see how he does 🥰

We’ve had 4 photos put on the app and he looks so happy and he genuinely is joining in!! I’m so happy for him and proud of him!! 🥹

How are all your new school starters doing? 😊

She starts on Monday so I don't know yet but has been unsettled today and has been saying she doesn't want to go to school, she wants to go back to nursery 🤦

I really hope it goes well for you both tomorrow!! If it helps at all, from what I’ve seen so far reception (or at least the beginning of reception) is pretty much the same as nursery with lots of playing!!

Does her nursery have a holiday club that she can go back to at all? We’re going to do nursery days in the school holidays on the same days he went to nursery (he only did 2 days) to keep to a routine and let him go back and visit 🥰

This year my year 1 literally ran into school after sobbing and being peeled off on day 1 of Reception. They will learn so much, its brilliant. Get ready for the fastest year of your life!

Eta, so glad your son's first days have gone so well!

Aww that’s so good!! It must have been hard for you last year though!! 😢

Nooo don’t say that, it’s already going too fast 🥺 Hopefully the two non school days will slow things down a bit for us 🤞♥️

My son starts tomorrow for 2 days then off for 3 days before starting full time on the 14th. He is saying he is scared and wants to go back to preschool because he misses his friends, all his best friends have gone to different schools. He has also been waking up in the night all week which is really unlike him too 😭

My DS did 2 days last week. First day was fine, second day he screamed and had to be carried in by the TA. It was heartbreaking. He’s saying he doesn’t want to go back tomorrow and wants to go to nursery. He’s not long turned 4 and even though I know he’s ready for reception I’m doubting everything. He did however come out on Friday saying he had a great day so who knows. Im just going to see how this week goes. Dreading tomorrow morning though!
