Advice needed choosing primary school for my son (possible autism/SEND support) – Lambeth area
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from parents who know the local schools or have experience with SEND/autism support.
My son is due to start Reception in the future and he currently has a pre-diagnosis of autism (assessment is ongoing). He is verbal, speaks in full sentences, enjoys being around other children and manages well in nursery, but we are aware he may need extra support as he transitions into school.
I’m trying to choose the right primary school and I’m considering:
Bonneville Primary School, Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School, Walnut Tree Walk Primary School and Millbank Gardens Primary Academy.
I originally wanted a school that is close to home, as I feel being local would really help with routine, friendships and day-to-day life. However, I’m also open to travelling further if a school would genuinely provide better support for him.
I have heard positive things about some of these schools, particularly around SEND support and smaller intervention groups, but I would really appreciate hearing from parents who have first-hand experience.
I’m particularly interested in how good the SEND support is in each school, how well they support autistic children who are verbal and able to access mainstream learning, how approachable and knowledgeable the SENDCo is, whether children receive support before an EHCP or formal diagnosis, and how they support sensory needs, transitions and emotional regulation.
I understand every child is different, but I would really value any experiences (positive or negative) from parents who have children at these schools or have considered them.
Thank you 😊

You will be get more of a response if you ask this on local FB community groups as very few here will know those schools.

I have heard excellent things about Woodlark Autism Provision at Larkhall Primary School near Stockwell
