hi guys
my daughter is starting nursery in September and her school requires nursery children to wear full school uniform. I have been looking for pinafores as they will be most comfortable her school requires grey school uniform I wanted the mid grey uniform but I can only seem to find the darker grey in The supermarkets. I currently have a pinafore from m&s but again, it is the dark grey. Anyone know where to find the mid grey school uniform from or should I just keep the dark grey

Every school should have an official supplier and they should stock it.

Also our school nursery have a uniform but school is much more relaxed for their age. So I put my daughter in their school coloured leggings in the winter colder months. School didn’t actively tell us they are more relaxed on uniform for their nursery aged children till they sent an email saying leggings are not acceptable but when I spoke to them as my daughter although turning 4 in September is only in age 2-3 clothing and had tiny legs so couldn’t get skirts or pinafores to not be down to her ankles they told be they are more relaxed xx

Check on vinted. I wouldn't be buying new for nursery... mine comes home absolutely filthy.
They seem to have added in a forest school type area since my daughter went, which i think is increasingly common. She always came home looking exactly as I sent her. I miss that

Not in a lot of private nurseries/pre prep attached to private schools.

Asda jersey pinafores are great and wash well. Always had those for my daughter

Mine has just finished her year at nursery, wearing school logo polo shirt, leggings and a logo cardi or jumper. This September, theyre having the nursery children wear ties to match the rest of the school.

Go cheap as possible, especially since it will end up plastered with food and paint/pens, dark will hide the stains better. You'll also want to have spare outfit in bags in case of toileting accidents.

Does the school Facebook page or website show actual children in uniform?

I've found what is specified and what actually happens, to be 2 different things. I'd also argue that mid grey is what is in most supermarkets and charcoal is harder to find.

All our uniform came from Sainsbury’s or Asda. Pre school nursery was uniform. The same colours as the school but the sweatshirt had a different logo as the pre school was independent. Day care nurseries don’t tend to have uniform. All the school nurseries near us do. It can vary though. I work in and out of schools where nursery can be mixed in with reception so all wear the same. Some places age 2 nursery are in with pre school and don’t wear uniforms.

I also bought 5 of everything so we always had enough on the go. Full changes needed every day due to food stains, paint, glue, mud etc.

I’d get knee socks rather than tights.

Bit cold in the depths of winter though? Socks and pinafore for autumn maybe then I’d see if they allow joggers, jersey trousers or leggings. IME (with 2 private school nurseries) the uniform regulations will be written in a way that sounds really strict, because it’s for the whole school but in reality there’s a huge amount of leeway with the little ones because if they’re small for their age uniform doesn’t always come in small enough sizes and also the priority will always be ensuring they can manage the loo independently and not have accident because of their clothing. If it’s a qualified teacher leading the class they can be at a 1:13 ratio so they can’t be helping every child in the toilet. If you’re unsure OP just get what you need to go back in September (surely the summer dress?) then buy more once you’ve seen what others are wearing/spoken to the school or other mums.

September isn’t the dead of winter though, it’s usually not cold at all. I teach EYFS in the north east. Tights are difficult to manage and if they do get wet, the child needs to be able to get the wet tights off and put dry tights and knickers on.

Can you get an old uniform in a charity shop, second hand from the nursery directly or from the local Facebook pages?

Loads of people buy kids extra uniform and they never wear it or they grow out of it so fast that even if worn it's almost new.

Oh yes I know September isn’t cold, usually the opposite. And agree absolutely that they need to be able to manage the loo. My point was that socks only take you so far into the year and OP does need to think about a manageable option for when it does get colder- it would be miserable for the poor kid to be in knee socks when it’s freezing in January because she can’t manage tights.

Also my guess is that in September the norm might be to go back wearing the summer uniform with the switch mandated from October HT or at least that’s my typical experience of private schools. Assuming of course this is a private because I can’t imagine a state wanting nursery in full uniform and being that particular about the shade of grey!! So just saying if that’s the case OP could potentially always wait and see to buy the winter uniform. She’ll know a lot more about how strict they really are once DC has started and she’s had chance to talk to staff and other parents.

It really isn't. Lots of schools have proper uniform in nursery - I did over 30 years ago. We had summer dresses with white socks and shoes, or pinafores, cardigans and blazers.

Hrft but schools near us, more than one, with attached nursery, require children to wear uniform.

Private nursery's near us do not require uniform.

What is the point of nursery age children wearing ties?

I have no idea, I think its ridiculous reception are having to wear them but its the only thing we disliked about the school so are putting up with it for the other benefits.
