TA Supply work

Hello, I‘m a retired primary school teacher but would like to earn a little bit extra to supplement my pension. Does anyone know if there is much demand for supply TAs? I’m 57 and still pretty energetic but can’t face teaching!

How about exam invigilating? My mum is a retired teacher too, she is very much in demand and enjoys the work.

I’d join an agency - I’m sure there is a call for both HLTA’s, TA’s and EI’s too
my friend also marks SATS papers - she said that is good money 💰

in my school we definitely have supply TAs working one to one with children with SEND. Unlike our regular TAs who are amazing, many agency staff we’ve had recently have lacked initiative. If anyone is particularly good we’ll ask for them in future. So if you’re decent, you’ll be in great demand.

I used to order supply (teachers and TAs) in secondary. We used TAs a lot less as it’s cheaper to do without, I assume it’s the same for primary. you also have to be up and ready for a call for supply to get there on time.

Exam invigilating is a great idea although it’s not all year. I don’t know if you can register with a few schools/colleges.

Yes I'm an experienced teacher of 13 years and I'm doing a long term placement as a GTA 1 day a week from September to November. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for all your advice.
I already do invigilating and I enjoy it but it’s obviously very seasonal so I’d like to do something else just to pay for little luxuries.
I think I’d only want to do 1 day a week though, possibly 2 but couldn’t cope with on call-it would have to be pre booked.
I’ll give a local agency a call on Monday and see what they say.
Thanks again.

another idea is babysitting. There’s an ex teacher near me who has set herself up as one. I know people really struggle to find them these days, not something teenagers seem to do anymore.

I’m just finishing a stint as a supply teacher - I’m sure you’ll be in high demand. Your challenge will be making sure that people don’t take advantage of the fact you have qts and pay you TA wages for teacher roles.
