Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice as I'm feeling really anxious about our Reception school place.
My son is due to start school in September and we accepted a place at a school not far from us. At the time, we felt it was the right decision, but since then we've heard a number of mixed opinions about the school, and it's made me start doubting whether we've made the right choice.
My son hasn't attended nursery, so starting school is going to be a big step for him. He is quite a sensitive little boy and can be anxious in new situations. Since the school applications were made, he has become friends with several children at the local park who will all be attending a different school. It's one closer to us and is also our catchment school. He doesn't know any children going to the original school hes accepted at, and I'm wondering whether having familiar faces around him would help him settle.
We've also heard differing views from local parents and people who work in education about the schools, which has added to my uncertainty. I know that every school has both positive and negative opinions, and I'm trying to work out whether my worries are based on genuine concerns or whether I'm overthinking things.
My son has already attended all of his transition sessions at the accepted school and met his teacher, so part of me worries about changing things at this stage, but another part of me wonders whether this school closer to us might be a better fit for him.
I'd really appreciate any honest advice.. would it be possible to change school now? I have tried to email but it says they have broken up for the summer. I really feel anxious about him starting the school hes got a place at and wish i heard all the rumours beforehand. I think my son would be so happy to see familiar faces at this other school.
Please be kind. I'm just trying to make the best decision for my little boy. If anyone has any advice id be greatly appreciative.
